Isabel P. Tellez, 84 of Las Cruces was called to be with God on Wednesday April 23, 2014. She was born in La Mesa, New Mexico on March 21, 1930 to Felix and Isabel B. Perea. Isabel had a great love of her faith as an active parishioner at Holy Cross Catholic Church for nearly 40 years. She served as a Eucharistic Minister for 18 years, as well as a Greeter for many years. Isabel married the love of her life Roberto in 1952, and together raised six children: Lydia T. Merlos (Fredy Merlos Sr.), Daniel P. Tellez (Lily Lazcano), Bob Tellez (Kathy Tellez), Rosemary Martos (Manuel Martos), Elizabeth Robles (Sal Iturralde), and Virginia Franco (Sammy Franco) and had a very close relationship with their first grandchild Maribel Tellez (Marcos Delgado). She was very proud to be a grandmother to her 18 grandchildren and equally as proud to be a great grandmother to her 11 great grandchildren. Isabel loved life and had a servant's heart. Besides her volunteerism at her church, she also volunteered her time with the Memorial Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary group and at The Munson Senior Center. There she taught Spanish and made so many dear friends over the years participating in the "Young at Heart" Chorus. Isabel developed a passion for singing at a very young age when she sang with the choir at San Jose Church in La Mesa. Isabel enjoyed spending time with old friends and meeting new friends at the Benavidez Center as well. Practically anywhere life took her, she never met a stranger. She truly enjoyed playing pool and excelled as a player, by participating in tournaments at the Munson Center. Isabel would occasionally make a trip to the casinos where she found enjoyment playing the games and meeting up with lady luck from time to time. Isabel was preceded in death by her mother Isabel B. Perea; father Felix Perea; brothers Ramon, Lorenzo, Eduardo, Saul and Antonio; sisters, Genoveva and Maria De Refugio "Cuca", as well as her loving husband of 58 years, Roberto L. Tellez, and son-in-law, Jody Robles. She was known as Mom and Grandma not only to her children and grandchildren, but to many whom she welcomed into her home with open arms and an open heart. Serving as casket bearers will be Sammy Franco, Sal Iturralde, Jaime Martos, Manny Martos, Fredy Merlos Jr., and Steven Robles. Honorary bearers will be Marcos Delgado, Ray Padilla, Fredy Merlos Sr., Jacobo Martos, R.C. Tellez, Katie Valenzuela and Isabel Vigil. Visitation for Mrs. Tellez will begin at 6 PM Monday, April 28, 2014 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road where Recitation of the Holy Rosary is scheduled for 7 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday April 29, 2014 at 10 AM in Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1327 N. Miranda with Reverend Alejandro Reyes officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho where she will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to her favorite charity The Saint Vincent De Paul Society at Holy Cross Church, Las Cruces, New Mexico.
