George W. Montoya, 87 of Las Cruces, NM passed away Sunday May 18, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at home. He was born to Martin and Aurora Montoya on February 22, 1927 in Las Cruces, NM and was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Montoya. George was a member of St. Genevieve's Catholic Church and honorably served his country with the United State Navy during WWII. After his military service George was hired by the United States Postal Service as the first parcel post carrier in Las Cruces, NM. He would further his 30 year career becoming Postmaster at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico State University, and later Director of Finance. George enjoyed watching football and boxing, but his greatest love was his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his daughter, Norma Ledesma (Modesto), sons, George T. Montoya II, P. Martin Montoya and Philip Montoya, and nine grandchildren, Justin Hungate (Leah), Roxy Montoya, George S. Montoya III, Georgia Tomada (Mark), Gayle Martinez (Jacob), Geanna Ledesma (Adam Luna), Tommy Montoya, Mia Montoya and Philip Montoya II. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Seamus and Arya Hungate, Ryder and Stryker Tomada, Paytyn and Gavin Martinez, sisters Emma Soto and Stella Bourger and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death were his brothers, Martin Montoya, Robert Montoya, Mike Montoya, Willie Montoya, Eddie Montoya and sister Jenny Rel. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday May 27, 2014 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church with Fr. Ricardo Bauza as celebrant.
