(Betty) Jo Lee Williams, 89, of Las Cruces passed on to be with her Lord, May 29, 2014. She was born May 17, 1925, in Abilene, TX to Robert Monroe Lee and Golda Reddell Lee Graham. She was a resident of Las Cruces since 1927. Jo Lee graduated from Las Cruces Union High School on May 29, 1942 and New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education on December 19, 1946. She worked from 1943-1951 as Secretary to Officer in Charge Naval Unit at WSMR. She began her education career in 1953 at Southward. She further taught at Central, her beloved Lucero; where she was known as Mrs. J. Williams, and finished her career teaching at Booker T. Washington, retiring in May, 1985. Over the years she taught 1st, 2nd, 4th and a combined 5th/ 6th grades plus Head Start. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Pink Ladies, church and any place she was needed. Jo Lee was a member of Fairacres Baptist Church; Former member of Kappa Kappa Iota, and the NM Association of Educational Retirees. Jo Lee was preceded death by husband Thomas Williams (1976), father Robert (1989), mother Golda (1981), brother New Mexico State Patrol Officer Robert Lee (1960), nephew Eric (Lee) Crosby (1990) and grandson Terrence Williams (1980). Jo Lee is survived by Richard Williams and wife Kathy; Shanna Porter and husband David; three grandsons, Richard Williams II and wife Jennifer, Daniel Porter and girlfriend Jennifer Hala, Justin Hinojosa; four granddaughters Jennifer (Williams) Hay and husband Billy, Teresa Porter, Crystal (Porter) Payne and husband Donald, and Megan Williams. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren Jessica, Jaelynn, Jayme and Thomas Payne, Alexander and Gabriel Porter, Bryce and Brendyn Hay, Ambriel Williams, Nathaniel and Brooklee Williams and Brantley Bryan. We wish to thank Dr. William Baker, Dr. Richard Lazaro, Dr. Terry Boulware, Dr. Daniel Duran, Dr. Robert Mullin, Village at Northrise and staff for all they've done over the years. We would also like to thank Mesilla Valley Hospice for their kindness and excellent care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to NM Boys Ranch, P. O. Box 9, Belen, NM 87002-0009, NM Baptist Children's Home, Inc., Box 629, Portales, NM 88130 or Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 E. Montana, Las Cruces, NM 88005. Graveside services will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 5140 W. Picacho Avenue at on. A Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday June 3rd at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were entrusted to La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home.
