On June 12, 2014, Mireya Gonzalez Derk, 49, a lifelong resident of Las Cruces and Angel on earth was called back to be with our heavenly Father. She was born Jan. 19, 1965, to Esteban and Guillermina Gonzalez and grew up in Alamogordo. Mireya was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. While on earth, Mireya took everyone she met under her wing. Her heart was open to everyone she came across became the friend to share their joys, laughter, struggles and tears. She was the pillar of strength and encouragement for all of us. She always went above and beyond to do things for her family, friends and soldiers. Her smile, her laugh and her hugs will be greatly missed, especially by her loving husband, Ronnie Derk. Survivors include her loving husband of 10 years, Ronnie L. Derk of the family home; her son, Eddie Artiaga (Teresa) of Organ; two daughters, Erica Gonzalez (David), and Sherry Artiaga, all of Las Cruces; her parents, Esteban and Guillermina Gonzalez of Alamogordo; a brother, Fabricio Gonzalez (Marion), also of Las Cruces; two sisters, Mari and Myrna Gonzalez, both of Alamogordo. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, Kassandra, Kristina, David, Izaiah, Mark, Antonio and Max, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother, Gerardo Gonzalez. Mireya will be reposing Wednesday, June 18, 2014, from 9 a.m. to noon in Baca's Peace Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road. Recitation of the holy rosary will be the same afternoon at 1 p.m. in St. Genevieve's Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina, where the funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately thereafter, with the Rev. Ricardo Bauza officiating. The rite of committal and interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho, where she will be laid to rest. Serving as casket bearers will be Steven, Fabian and Sergio Gonzalez, Joseph Aragon, Joseph Moreno Jr. and Michael Chapman. The family would like to extend an invitation for fellowship and refreshments immediately following the interment services at the VFW Post 10124, 709 S. Valley Drive in Las Cruces.
