Our dear beloved mother, Manuela De La Cruz Chavez, 76, of Las Cruces, entered eternal life Sunday, June 22, 2014, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Manuela was born June 1, 1938, in Canatlan, Durango, Mexico, to Miguel and Mercedes Gutierrez De La Cruz. She was employed by Biad Chili Co. under the direction of Louis and Donald Biad for many years, and was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Survivors include her loving husband, Antonio G. Chavez, of the family home; two sons, Antonio J. Chavez and wife, Patricia Lozano, and Jose A. Chavez, all of Las Cruces. Other survivors include three granddaughters, Clarissa, Alicia and Samantha Chavez; her brothers-in-law, Benito and Benjamin Chavez and wife, Rosario, all of Chaparral, and Pedro Chavez of Fabens, Texas; her very special friends, Nicolasa Silva, Arturo Ojeda and Teofilo Garibay. Manuela was preceded in death by her parents and numerous brothers and sisters. Visitation for Mrs. Chavez will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014, in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road, where the prayer vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. The holy Mass of resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2014, in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina St. At her request, cremation will follow and inurnment of cremains will be held at a later date. Serving as casket bearers will be Joe, Antonio, Clarissa, Alicia and Benito Chavez.
