On June 24, 2014, Rafael "Wero" G. Trujillo, 79, of Las Cruces, entered eternal life at La Posada-Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded by his loving family. He was born Oct. 25, 1934, in Garfield to Alvaro and Lina Gallegos Trujillo. Wero, as he was fondly known to family and friends served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and retired as an electronic technician from White Sands Missile Range. He loved working on cars and was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife of 51 years, Rebecca Widner Trujillo, of the family home; two sons, Ruben G. Trujillo and wife, Christine, of El Paso, Texas, Michael A. Trujillo of Las Cruces; two daughters, Bernice A. Navarro and husband, Mike, and Virginia L. Smith all of Las Cruces; two brothers, Luis Trujillo of T or C; and Gabriel Trujillo of Wilmington, California; three sisters, Hijinia Rodriguez, Francisca "Quica" Solis and husband, Cecilio, all of Elfrida, Arizona, and Marcella "Chelo" Albidrez of Norwalk, California. Other survivors include 12 grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Wero was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Amelia Madden, Felicitas "Lichi" Ortiz; and a brother, Bruno Trujillo. Visitation for Mr. Trujillo will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2014 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road, where the prayer vigil is scheduled for 6 p.m. Family and Friends will join together to celebrate the holy Mass of resurrection at 10 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2014, in San Isidro Catholic Church, 2003 Loma Parda Street, in Garfield with the Rev. Vincent Petersen, celebrant. The rite of committal and interment will follow in the Garfield Cemetery, with military honors accorded by the Holloman Air Force Base Steel Talons Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League El Perro-Diablo Detachment. Serving as casket bearers will be Josef Lucero, Benito Salas, Alvaro and Robert Trujillo, Emmanuel Widner, and Mike Navarro. Honorary bearers will be Richard and Joseph Trujillo, John, Travis and Lina Smith.
