Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Paul Richard "One Punch Paul" Herrera, 52, Las Cruces, New Mexico, entered eternal life in his home on Sunday, June 29, 2014. Paul was born on April 8, 1962, in Las Cruces, to Daniel and Constance Herrera. He was the youngest of 11 children. He married Maria Gallegos and they have been married for 32 years. He is the proud father of two children and one stepson. He is also a very proud grandfather of four grandchildren, with another on the way. Paul's passion was being outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, tending to his yard and garden, as well as spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed going for a cruise with his wife on a nice day; just to get out and go, taking a vacation with his family to travel New Mexico with no real destination, just go where the car took you. Paul was a hard worker and enjoyed being a carpenter. He was a perfectionist when it came to any of his work. He always worked hard at everything he did in order to make sure it came out right and perfect. Paul was always that guy who was there when you needed him. One of his greatest achievements in life was being The Greatest Grandpa of all time. "NEVER FEAR, GRANDPA IS HERE!" That is what read on his favorite shirt, and he lived up to it too! His grandchildren were the light in his eyes. Paul is survived by wife, Maria Herrera, son Joshua Herrera (wife, Angelica, and grandson Dominic, with one on the way), daughter Renee Armendariz (husband Orly, grandsons, Orlando and Michael), and stepson David Mabie, all of Las Cruces. His brothers and sisters Gloria Clouser, Julie Diaz, Danny Herrera, George Herrera, Rita Herrera, Vicki Ortega, Paulette Herrera, Connie Angel, and Roger Herrera, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Paul is predeceased by his parents, granddaughter, Zahrya Araceli Vasquez Herrera, sister Stella Avalos, and other family members and friends. Pallbearers will be Joshua Herrera, David Mabie, Joe Melendrez, James Melendrez, Joseph Martinez, and Rudy Baca. Our family would also like to thank everyone at Mesilla Valley Hospice who came to our home to care for our Dad. As well as everyone with CARE (Cancer Aid Resource and Education) a nonprofit organization that helps Dona Ana County cancer patients with resources they might not be able to obtain on their own. We would appreciate any donations go to CARE. You may contact CARE through Yolanda "Yoli" R. Diaz – 575-680-5922 or 575-649-0598; yoli@carelascruces.org or yolidiaz6@msn.com, or Leticia Soto - 575-650-2019; lsoto4care@hotmail.com or on its website carelascruces.org for more information. Visitation for Paul will be Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina, Las Cruces, from 1 to 2 p.m. A prayer vigil will start at 2 p.m., with the Mass immediately following. At his request, cremation and burial will take place at a later date. Reception will be held after the services at the Las Cruces Home Builders Association, 2825 N. Main St. (cross street Temple), Las Cruces. Arrangements are with Getz Funeral Home 1410 E.
