Cora C. Reyes of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and formally of La Mesa, New Mexico, passed away Aug. 8, 2014, at the New Mexico State Veterans Home in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Cora was born Jan. 1, 1926, in Mesilla, New Mexico, to Blas and Emma L. Chavez. Cora enjoyed being a homemaker when her children were growing up. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, painting, and doing ceramic work. In her later years, Cora did quite a bit of traveling to Mexico City, Canada, Hawaii and Michigan. Cora will always be remembered for her humor and laughter, she will truly be missed.

Cora is survived by son Jaime E. Reyes (Josefina/Josie) of Las Cruces; daughter, Irma J. Grijalva of Las Cruces; a brother, Richard L. Chavez (Sara) of Mesquite, New Mexico; two sisters, Olivia C. Saenz of Laughlin, Nevada, and Martha C. Armijo (Bonifacio) of Fairacres, New Mexico. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Emma D. Lozoya (Hector) of Las Cruces, Erika D. Vargas (Sergio) of El Paso, Texas,, Evelyn D. Reyes, Olivia A. Bernal (Eric), and Nacona Grijalva, all of Las Cruces, Laramie Arzaga (Manny) of Tucson, Arizona, Jerry Reyes, Crystal Reyes and Ruben Reyes Jr., all of Las Cruces. Also surviving her are 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Cora was preceded in death by her parents, Blas and Emma L. Chavez; her husband of 39 years, Sylvestre C. Reyes; her son Ruben R. Reyes Sr.; a sister, Eloisa C. Sapien; and a brother, Blas L. Chavez Jr. Casket bearers will be Emma D. Lozoya, Erika D. Vargas, Evelyn D. Reyes, Olivia A. Bernal, Nacona Grijalva and Laramie Arzaga. Visitation will be today, Aug. 13, 2014, at 6 p.m. prayer vigil will follow at 7 p.m. at La Paz-Graham's Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral 1240 S. Espina St. Las Cruces. The rite of committal and interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho, where she will be laid to rest. For online condolences go to www.lapaz-grahams.com.??
