Roberta Renee Stern Martin, 63, of Silver City passed away on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at her residence. A memorial service will be held at Bright Funeral Home Chapel today, Aug. 28, 2014 at 1 p.m. Renee was born on Nov. 19, 1950, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, to William Bernard and Winifred Stern. She graduated from Silver High School in 1968. Renee was on the dive team and an avid swimmer and water skier. Renee was married to Don Martin for 11 years. Renee is survived by her mother Winifred Stern; two sons Mike (Liz) Martin of Silver City, and Jeffrey Martin of West Hollywood, California; three granddaughters Kaitlyn, Tyler and Mia Martin; four brothers, Mickey (Annie) Stern, Ted Stern, Barney (Connie) Stern, and Don (Debbie) Stern, and Doug Stern. She had several nieces, nephews and cousins. After 11 years of marriage to Don Martin and rearing her two sons, she went to Western New Mexico University and received a bachelor's degree, becoming a surveyor planner. Renee worked as a secretary for Phelps Dodge, and a surveyor planner for Troutman Engineering. Her biggest achievement while raising two children was attending all sports functions that came with motherhood, working full-time and getting her bachelor's degree.
