Julie V. Smith died following a lengthy illness on April 6, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, 2 brothers and 4 sisters. She is survived by daughters, Debra Smith and Denise Spracklen and husband John, son Paul F. Smith III, grandson Paul F. Smith IV, granddaughter Jessica Smith, and sisters Anne Marie Vargo, Elaine Aiello and Grace Nolan. Julie was born, raised and early schooled in Warren, Ohio. She entered nurses training at St. Elizabeth's Hospital School of Nursing, Youngstown, Ohio in 1941. Her military career started when she became a member in the Cadet Corps Nursing Program during her second year of training. This paved the way to her enlistment into the Army Nurse Corps in 1945 where she served until her discharge in 1947. After her active military service Julie served in various general and VA hospitals throughout the country and retired in 1974 after 30 years of nursing. Julie was a member of numerous organizations – civic, religious, porcelain arts, Veterans and a charter member of Women in Military Service. Having been an Army Nurse in WWII she was privileged to be one of the veterans on Honor Flight II on October 7, 2009 to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington DC. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (Pancan.org) The Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 7 PM Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road. Family and Friends will join together to celebrate the Funeral Mass at 5:30 PM Friday, (today) April 13, 2012 at St. Albert the Great Newman Center, 2615 S. Solano Drive with Reverend Mitch Dowalgo Celebrant. Inurnment of cremains will follow in St. Albert the Great Columbarium.
