Beatrice Peña Obituary
Beatrice Lucero Peña, 76, of Mesilla entered eternal life Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012 at her home. She was born July 16, 1936 in Mesilla to Ignacio and Beatrice Lopez Lucero. Due to the unfortunate death of her mother at childbirth, Beatrice was raised by her three aunts, Mariana and Francisca Lucero, and Cesaria Garcia and uncle, Joe C. Garcia. She grew up with her two "brothers", first cousins, "Baby Joe" and Andrew Garcia. As a teenager, she worked at El Patio and La Posta restaurants and graduated with a 9th-grade education. On June 23, 1953, Beatrice married Raúl "Bulie" Peña. She was the owner and president of Valley Plumbing, Heating and Cooling, Inc., Stonehaven Inn, LLC, and Peña Rentals, LLC. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, cooking, shopping and dancing at Palacios. Mrs. Peña was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a communicant at the Basilica of San Albino. Those left to mourn her passing include her son, Steve L. Peña; granddaughter, Lisa C. Peña; grandson, David I. Peña and sister-in-law, Elisa P. Nieto; great grandchildren, Kaya Bleu Curry, Jack "Melo" Curry, David I. "Dos" Peña II and Myda Nevaeh Peña. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jo Ann Peña Minor in 1988, and husband, Raul "Bulie" Peña in 2007. Visitation for Mrs. Peña will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012 in the Basilica of San Albino, 2070 Calle de Santiago where the prayer vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. Family and friends will join together to celebrate the funeral mass at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 in the same church with Rev. Richard Catanach officiating. The rite of committal and interment will follow in the San Albino Cemetery where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband. Serving as casket bearers will be David I. Peña, "Baby Joe" Garcia, Andrew Garcia, Arturo Jurado, Brian Curry, Jaime Trujillo and Sylvia Nieto.
