It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, Manuel M. Guerra, 78 of San Miguel on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 10, 1934 in Berino to Albino Sr. and Eva Mena Guerra. Manuel was a very well known in the area for the hot green chili that he produced; was admired and respected by many in the Mesilla Valley. He was a hardworking, wise and smart man, who always mentored his children and grandchildren. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife of sixty years, Maria Elena Fielding Guerra of the family home; three sons, Manuel Guerra, Jr. and wife Cruz of La Mesa, Hilario Guerra and wife Patricia of Las Cruces, and Lorenzo Guerra and wife Michelle of San Miguel; three daughters, Martha Rubio and husband Fernando of Anthony, Teresa Guerra and companion Joe Oliver of Las Cruces, and Maggie Chavarria of Wyoming; one brother, Luis Guerra and wife Mary of Globe, Arizona and three sisters, Lupe Alvarado and Natalia Mercado both of Berino and Juana Guerra of Parker, Arizona. Other survivors include twenty grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, as well as numerous niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Antonio Guerra and Albino Guerra, Jr., and a sister Otilia Barron. Visitation for Mr. Guerra will begin at 6 PM Monday, November 12, 2012 inSan Miguel Catholic Church, 19217 S. Highway 28 in San Miguel where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7 PM. Family and friends will join together at 10 AM Tuesday, November 13, 2012 to celebrate the Funeral Mass in the same church. At his request cremation will follow and inurnment of cremains will be held at a later date. Serving as casket bearers will be Manuel, Lorenzo, Hilario and Michael Guerra, Richard, Manny and Fernando Rubio. Honorary bearers will be all of his granddaughters. The Guerra Family would like to thank Dr. Ann Mercer for her 30 years of professional and loving care, and to the many family members who were always at his bedside with all their love and support.
