Richard M. Avalos of Commerce, Texas returned home to his Heavenly Father on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012. Richard was born to Adolfo "Rudy" and Eva Avalos in Las Cruces, N.M. on Nov. 19, 1954. He graduated from Las Cruces High School and attended New Mexico State University. His lifetime of employment included working for Las Cruces city parks, IBP - Amarillo, Texas, New Mexico State University and Texas A&M University – Commerce. He was consistently recognized for his standard of excellence, attention to details, and willingness to lead, train and assist wherever he was needed. He will be remembered for his creative artistry with rubber-stamping and numerous creations he gifted to family, friends and acquaintances. He was an avid collector of music and movies and was passionate about pet care and rescue. Richard will be remembered as a treasured son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by wife, Joyce Guthrie, Commerce; mom, Eva Avalos, Las Cruces; sons: Adam Avalos (Laura), Allen, Texas: Dwain Avalos (Amy), Castleberry, Fla.; and James Avalos, Seattle, Wash. He also is survived by brothers: Adolfo Avalos, Jr. (Tedde), Conroe, Texas; and Edward Avalos, Washington, D.C.; sister Terri Singh (Jerry), Las Cruces.; eight grandchildren, four nieces, and four nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his dad, Adolfo "Rudy" Avalos, of Las Cruces. Richard will live on in the memories of other family members and numerous friends. Visitation for Richard will be on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. in the Getz Funeral Home Chapel. The prayer vigil will follow at 7 p.m. in the Getz Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at 10 a.m. in the Getz Funeral Home Chapel. Rite of committal will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
