Anne Jacqueline Meek died Tuesday, November 6, 2012 after a brief illness. She was 78 years of age. Anne was born in San Diego, California to William Harold Meek and Anne Marie Honoré Savouré Meek on May 24, 1934. She is survived by her daughter, Susanna "Sana" Shelton Clason and husband Dennis L. Clason of Cincinnati, Ohio and Las Cruces; sister Priscilla Creed and husband Joe L. Creed of Las Cruces; brother Stephen H. Meek and wife Elizabeth of North Carolina; grandsons Captain Brian N. Clason and wife Caitlin Russell of St. Robert, Missouri, and Lyle J. Clason of Manhattan, Kansas. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Anne graduated from Las Cruces Union High School in 1952, and attended New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts, where she majored in Music and minored in Math and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Anne was elected Miss Vanity Fair at New Mexico A&M in 1954. She was a gifted pianist who loved music from the Romantic and Classical eras. Anne retired from NMSU in 2001. She cut her retirement short to begin working as Recording Secretary to the NMSU Faculty Senate, a job she was proud to hold, and retired from this past May. Anne enjoyed working with the Oñate Football Boosters Club, gardening, sewing, knitting, and attending performances of the Mesilla Valley Concert Band. At her request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service is pending. The family requests that donations in her name be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice or the Mesilla Valley Concert Band in lieu of flowers.
