Bonnie Marie Lacy (born Bonnie Marie Lee) passed away peacefully on Dec. 28, 2012 surrounded by her eight loving children. Born in Ballenger Texas, to Julia Ellen and Roland Elzie Lee on July 21, 1928, she left her farming home at age 17 and married Byford D. Lacy. Together they created a big beautiful family that became the source of much joy and endless adventure. Committed to her family with all her heart, Marie worked hard all of her life, early on as a telephone operator and later at White Sands Missile Range where she worked as an incentive awards specialist. She always managed to make ends meet, even selling furniture once so her kids could have a good Christmas. A gifted writer, she also wrote articles for the White Sands newspaper often demonstrating her sparkling wit. Her greatest job, however, was raising her eight children. She was always there for others and always made sure her kids had every chance to succeed. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her love of God, her world-famous enchiladas, her warm laughter and her constant love, compassion, and joy she had for her kids. One of Marie's greatest qualities was her commitment & caring for others. After retiring from White Sands she returned to Texas to care for her mother, Julia. She did the same for her older brother Robert as his health failed and then later, her cherished sister Amy, who was such a source of inspiration for her throughout her life. Always overcoming great challenges in her life, she survived breast cancer and in her last years, valiantly and with great dignity battled Parkinson's disease. Marie is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Jesse Lee, Robert Lee, Harvey Lee, her sisters Earlene Pettit, Jaunita Berry and Amy Pettit. She is survived by her brother Curtis Lee and her eight children Joe David Lacy, Julia Lacy, Mike Lacy, Steve Lacy, Greg Lacy, Richard Lacy, Kathy Lacy and Doug Lacy, and 14 grandchildren. Her legacy is love and she will never be forgotten. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Marie's caregivers Michelle DeLaO, Lydia Macias, and the compassionate loving care of Mesilla Valley Hospice & Father Don. A memorial service will be held at La Paz Grahm's Funeral Home Chapel at 3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012. To sign the guest book log on to www.lapaz-grahams.com.
