It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of our mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend, Martina Parra Montalvo, 93, of her hometown of Las Cruces, N.M. Martina was born May 30, 1919. She went to her heavenly home peacefully early the morning of Jan. 9, 2013. Martina is survived by her loving sons; Joel (Las Cruces), Ruben (Tucson, Ariz.) and Gabriel (Las Cruces); Betty Jo (Las Cruces) who was like a daughter to her, and grandson Thomas who she raised as a son. Martina is also survived by sisters; Josephina (Pepa) Martinez, and Dominga (Minga) Benavidez of California, and Francisca (Francis) Bustamante of Texas. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of over 50 years, Guadalupe Montalvo, Jr., sons Federico and Hugo of Las Cruces, as well as brother Antonio (Tony) Parra, sisters Genoveva (Beva) Parra, Mexico, Romana Misquez (California), Natalia (Tali) Chavez, Las Cruces, Maria Sira (Güera) Saenz, Las Cruces. Martina was a avid homemaker until three months ago when her illness slowed her down, and was a devout Catholic. She loved her family dearly and will be missed by all, as well as her morning visits over a cup of coffee. Pallbearers will be grandsons Joel Montalvo, Jr., Sean Montalvo and Hugo Montalvo, Jr., as well as great-grandsons Christian Henry, Donald Henry and Jordan McWhorter. Services have been entrusted to the care of La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home, 555 W. Amador Ave., where the rosary will be held on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013 at 7 p.m. Mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church on North Miranda Street at 10 a.m., Jan. 15, 2013, with Msgr. John E. Anderson and Fr. Alejandro Reyes officiating with burial following the services at Hillcrest Cemetery, Las Cruces.
