Robert C. Caldwell, 82, of Las Cruces, and formerly of West Greenwich, R.I., died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at the South Kingston Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in West Kingston, R.I. He was the husband of the late Irene C. (Anderson) Caldwell to whom, at the time of her death on March 28, 2011, he had been married since 1954. Born in Providence, R.I., he was son of the late Raymond P. & Gladys (Tillinghast) Caldwell. Mr. Caldwell graduated from Cranston High School in Rhode Island; served as a commissioned officer with the rank of second lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and continued his military service in the Army Reserves before retiring at the rank of colonel. He was a photoengraver employed by Bickford Photoengraving and Heritage Color before retiring 1n 1989. In 1989 he and his wife moved to Las Cruces for the warmth of southern New Mexico. He became actively involved in Mission Lutheran Church. He is survived by two daughters: Christine Southworth and her husband Gary of Exeter, R.I., KarenAnn Caldwell and her husband James Stalker of Las Cruces, and one son, Stephen Caldwell and his wife Mary of Somerset, Mass.; one sister Nathalie Stewart of North Kingstown, R.I.; four grandchildren: Gregory and Geoffrey Southworth, Elizabeth Rose Caldwell and Charlotte Stalker, and two great-grandchildren, Madeline Southworth and Jace Medeiros. He was predeceased by two sons, Kenneth C. and R. Craig Caldwell and by a brother Raymond S. Caldwell. A memorial service was held on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Warwick, R.I. Interment with military honors followed at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Exeter, R.I.
