Eliseo A. Avalos, 88, of Las Cruces, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013. He was born Feb. 13, 1924 in El Paso, TX to Juan and Juanita Avalos. Eliseo was a veteran of the US Army where he served our country honorably during WW II, and was awarded the European-African –Middle Eastern Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. He was also retired after many years of faithful service from WSMR. Eliseo was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral and the V.F.W. Post 3242. He enjoyed sports, football and going to casinos. He will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his two daughters Mary Avalos and Sylvia Evaro both of Las Cruces; grandchildren Amanda and Joel and by five great-grandchildren. Also surviving him are his nieces Nellie Hernandez and Ramona Avalos and his nephew Tony Avalos. Eliseo was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Lou Avalos, brother Adolfo Avalos, sister Candelaria Avalos and his nephew Guadalupe "Lupe" Avalos. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday, Jan.15, 2013 at Getz Funeral Home where a rosary will follow at 7 pm. A funeral mass to celebrate his life will be 10 am on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. The US Army, El Diablo Perro and the V.F.W. will provide military honors. At his request cremation will take place and interment of his cremains will be held at a later date. The honor of being a pallbearer goes to Tony and Anthony Avalos, Joel and Amanda Evaro, Salvador Hernandez and Jose Parra.
