Robert E. Jenkins, "Bob", died suddenly on Jan. 11 in his home in Radium Springs, N.M. Bob was born in Birmingham, Ala., April 16, 1941 to Walter and Ruby Lee who both preceded him in death. His brother Alvis and wife Ouida Fay live in Steens, Miss. His sister Melnee Allison resides in Birmingham, Ala. When Bob left home as a young man he went west to California where he built a home and had two sons and a daughter. His sons Ronald and Bobby, Jr. currently reside in Mississippi along the coastal area with families of their own. His daughter Deborah still resides in California. Bob moved back to the southeast area and worked many years for Kelly Goodyear Tire. Then one day Kelly transferred him here to the desert he came to love so much that he chose early retirement over another transfer. Bob was a perfectionist, a hard worker and loved creating things. For sometime he had his own handyman business and then he was also contracted with "The Greens" for their lawn maintenance. "Mayor Bob" as some lovingly called him was very active in his community. Almost everyone in Fort Selden-Radium Springs area knew him and many loved him. He will be sorely missed, especially by the "Radium Springs Coffee Club" that met each weekday morning. His wife Louise and mother-in-law Charlotte Bosteder will obviously have a large hole in their lives as well. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation in his name to the or donate a bale of hay to our donkeys. Bob will lie in state from 5 -7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 at La Paz - Graham's Funeral Home. A funeral service will be on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at La Paz - Graham's Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. Following the service there will be a potluck at the Radium Springs Community Center Saturday from 2 - 4 p.m. Arrangements are with La Paz - Graham's Funeral Home, www.lapaz-grahams.com. 526-6891.
