On Feb. 11, 2013, Earl Guy Kiehne passed away at his home as lovingly and as peacefully as he lived. His last days were spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Earl is survived by his son Craig Kiehne and his family, Pamela Pena, Craig Kiehne Jr, Jo Belle Kiehne, Kyle Kiehne, Jane Kiehne, and Coby Cherry, all of Las Cruces, N.M.; his son and daughter-in-law Terry and Jo Beth Kiehne, of Los Alamos, N.M. and their children, Shawnell Corn, of Maricopa, Ariz., Charlie Kiehne, and James Kiehne, of Las Cruces; his sister Lena Shelhorn, of Glenwood, N.M., and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, nephews and very special family friends. Earl was preceded in death by his loving wife Lydia, his parents August William and Perfeta Maria Kiehne, his brother Karl W Kiehne, and two sisters, Sallie Rogers and Estella Woolrich. Earl was born in Reserve, N.M. in 1927 and grew up in Reserve and Glenwood. He was a member of the Catholic Church and attended Reserve Union High School. When not in school he would be working with his father at the family ranch on the Negrito Creek located in the Gila National Forest. Earl entered the Armed Services in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1947. His discharge papers list "WWII Victory Medal, Occupation Medal." He listed his civilian occupation as "cowpuncher." Earl met the love of his life Lydia Thacker in Reserve. They were married on Dec. 3, 1949 in Silver City, N.M. They lived in Datil and Alamogordo, N.M. before ultimately settling in Las Cruces where they spend the rest of their lives. Earl and Lydia were blessed with two children, Craig and Terry. Earl worked for the U.S. Forest Service, then later for the Department of the Army at White Sands Missile Range as a security police officer. His career spanned 35 years in Civil Service. He loved to fish, hunt, pitch horseshoes, bowl, spend time outdoors with his family, and we rarely missed the Friday night car races. Earl and Lydia were avid bowlers and made numerous life-long friends at the bowling alley. Earl is at home now; you will be missed, but never forgotten. You will live on in our hearts forever. Pallbearers are Jay McKeen, Blaine Thacker, Troy Thacker, Wayne Shellhorn, Elvin George, Craig Kiehne Jr, Charlie Kiehne and James Kiehne A visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 from 9 - 10 a.m. at Getz Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with military honors.
