Maria Saenz Alaniz, 99, lifelong resident of La Mesa entered eternal life Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Dec. 11, 1913 to Hilario and Marcella Carrasco Saenz. Maria was a homemaker and a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Survivors include four sons, Ruben Saenz and companion Tina, Willie Alaniz and wife Marisela, Johnny Alaniz and companion Jan, and Frank Alaniz and wife Helen, all of Southern California; three daughters, Isabel Garcia, Micaela Ordonez and husband Ramon and Evangelina Apodaca and husband Al, all of La Mesa. Other survivors include 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Francisco Alaniz, a daughter, Amelia Saenz, and numerous brothers and sisters. The family will be receiving relatives and friends at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013 in San Jose Catholic Church, 353 E. Josephine Street in La Mesa where the recitation of the holy rosary will begin at 9:30 a.m. Mass of resurrection will follow immediately thereafter with the Rev. Rogelio Martinez officiating. The rite of committal and interment will follow in San Jose Cemetery where she will lay to rest next to her husband. Serving as casket bearers will be Greg Garcia, Oscar Flores, Jose de Los Santos, William Garcia, Juan Uribe and Russell Stewart.
