Our beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, SSGT Ret., Pedro. M. Garcia, 62, of Las Cruces entered eternal life Sunday, May 5, 2013 at his home. He was born Sept. 8, 1950 in Mesilla to Felipe Sr. and Ascension Miranda Garcia. Pedro served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam era and Persian Gulf War. He retired as a staff sergeant after 21 years of service. Pedro was a member of the Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Diana Turpen Garcia of Las Cruces; his father, Felipe Garcia Sr. of Mesilla; daughters, Crystal L. Garcia-Anaya and husband Ray of Peralta, N.M., Janet A. Wright of Las Cruces; son, Alan Schumann and wife Angelina of Trabuco Canyon, Calif.; stepson, Mark Schell and wife Serene of Houston, Texas; stepdaughters, Betty Tena and husband George, Jennifer Schell and Jeanine Gamboa, all of Las Cruces; two brothers, Geronimo "Jerry" Garcia and wife Rosario, Felipe Garcia Jr,. all of Mesilla; four sisters, Linda Martinez and husband Robert of La Mesa, Eduviges "Vicky" Garcia, Cathleen "Cathy" Garcia, both of Mesilla, and Guadalupe Salazar of Las Cruces. Other survivors include three grandchildren, Rigel and Rhea Schuh-Munn, Anne Marie G. Anaya; 14 step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother; sister, Eleanor Garcia; nephew Robbie "JR" Martinez, and sister-in-law, Sandra Garcia. Visitation for Pedro will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road where the prayer vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. Family and friends will join together to celebrate the funeral mass at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013 in the Basilica de San Albino, 2070 Calle Principal in Mesilla with Rev. Richard Catanach officiating. The rite of committal and interment will follow the same afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors accorded by a Holloman Air Force Base Honor Guard. Serving as casket bearers will be Alan Schumann, Ray Anaya, Henry Garcia, George Tena, Geronimo "Jerry" Garcia and Felipe Garcia Jr. Honorary bearers will be Gabriel Garcia and Carlos Morones.
