Mary Ann Baldonado Melendez, age 65, lifelong resident of Las Cruces, passed away Monday, July 15, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 10, 1947 to Ralph and Josefa Flores Baldonado. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. One of the greatest qualities in life is "love" and Mary Ann took that to heart. She constantly showed love by not only taking care of her family, but anyone who needed a friend, a place to stay, a meal, a shoulder to cry on, or simply someone to laugh with. Her love for helping others continued in her career as a nurse since 1969. She worked in various hospitals and nursing homes in Silver City and Las Cruces. In 1984, she started working for the Gadsden Independent School District as the School Nurse where she loved taking care of "her kids" as she always called them until she retired in 2009. Mary Ann was passionate about everything she did, whether it was canning, cooking, baking, sewing, cake decorating, or her latest hobby beading and jewelry design. You always considered yourself special when receiving one of her homemade gifts. She had a very strong faith in the Bible as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and strongly believed in the hope of a resurrection where she would once again see her loved ones here on earth in paradise conditions. Mary Ann is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Anastacio Melendez of the family home; a son, Andres Melendez; two daughters, Leticia Martinez and husband Brandon all of Las Cruces and Sara Greeno and husband Everett of Cathedral City, CA; her mother, Josefa Baldonado and a granddaughter, Bailey Lynn Brightbill. Other survivors include five brothers, Eloy Arvizu, Gabe, Arturo, Pete, and Greg Baldonado; two sisters, Elva Gonzalez and Betty Nuñez, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Baldonado; a sister, Nancy Munoz; a grandson, Mathias Azreal Melendez and a daughter-in-law, Hilda Melendez. At her request cremation will take place and a Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1110 Burke Road, Las Cruces. The Melendez family would like to thank everyone for the love and support they have received during this difficult time. We would also like to thank Dr. Rauth and his staff, and the nurses and technicians at Memorial Medical Center who took outstanding care of our mom while she was in the hospital.
