Shirley Ann Lewis, 77, of Las Cruces entered eternal life Saturday, Sept. 29, 2013 peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Nov. 5, 1935 in Schulter, Oklahoma to John and Frances Mitchell Payne. Shirley was a homemaker and talented ceramist for many years. She was a long time resident of Las Cruces and enjoyed sewing and many hobbies, including running a ceramic store for many years, teaching and working with anyone who showed an interest in the ceramic world. Shirley and her wonderful friends traveled to many ceramic shows and classes to learn state-of-the-art techniques in the ceramic industry. In her early years, Shirley was on a bowling league, enjoyed camping and boating with her family, spending their summer weekends at the lake, and especially loved collecting rocks and driftwood on the beaches. She volunteered as a scout leader for her three children for many years, was involved in PTA and always was a homeroom mom. After devoting all her time to her childrens' school events and activities throughout the years, she found a love for line dancing and creating costumes for their senior line dancing competitions, and meeting her dear friends for a weekly brunch. Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Walter Lewis Jr.; son, Terry Lee Lewis and wife Debby; daughter, Laurie Ann Lewis-Findley, all of Las Cruces; her beautiful grandchildren, Tony Miller of Las Cruces, Kaylee and Lindsey Findley of Laramie, Wyoming, and a great grandson, Oliver Miller, of Las Cruces; her sister, Rosie Dinsmore, of Kansas City, Kansas; two brothers, Johnny Dean Payne of Napa, California and Jack Dalrymple of Miami, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Chris Miller and a daughter, Debbie Miller-Brizzee. A celebration of life service is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 11, 2013 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Las Cruces Church of Christ, 2025 N. Valley Drive in Las Cruces.
