Samuel E. Martinez, age 74, of Las Cruces entered eternal life Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 11, 1939 in Sabinoso, NM to Felipe and Victoria Esquivel Martinez. Samuel served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the United States Postal Service as a Postal Clerk and retired in 1994 and was a member of the Catholic Church. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving children, Eric Martinez of Silver City, and Mary Martinez-Chavez and husband Patrick of Las Cruces; a brother, Lorenzo Martinez and wife Juanita of Hurley, and a sister, Lily Vigil of Logan, NM. Other survivors include five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Conrado and Manuel Martinez and a sister, Annie Baca. Visitation for Mr. Martinez will begin at 2:30 PM Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at St. Albert the Great Newman Parish, 2615 S. Solano where the Prayer vigil is scheduled for 3 PM. The Funeral Liturgy will follow immediately thereafter with the Reverend Ray Flores, Celebrant. At his request cremation will take place and Inurnment of Cremains will be held at a later date. Serving as casket bearers will be Eric and Eric J. Martinez, Pat Chavez, Jessie and Peter Martinez and Oliver Hernandez.
