Robert E. Farmer, 81, a long time resident of San Lorenzo, N.M. entered eternal rest Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at his residence. He was born April 9, 1932 in Denver, Colo. to Otto and Pearl Gary Farmer. Bob, as he was known to everyone, attended elementary school in Santa Rita, N.M. He graduated from Hurley High School in 1952. As a senior, he was the Quarterback for Hurley High football team. Bob played on the basketball team and ran track. After graduation, he joined the Army. He was stationed in San Francisco during his enlistment. Upon his discharge from the Army he met and married Helen Bourguet. He attended Western New Mexico University and graduated with a degree in Math and got his teaching credentials. He later went on and got his Masters as well. He began teaching Math at C.C. Snell Jr. High School in 1964. He also drove a school bus from 1963 until March of 2013. Mr. Farmer taught for 34 years at Snell. Many of his students will remember the concession stand at Snell that he ran for many years. He made his students and people he met feel good about themselves. He made his students believe they could do more and accomplish more than they thought they could. He helped students realize math was not so hard and with hard work, they could pass the class. He was quick to laugh and had a ready smile for everyone. He loved talking to people and shared his great faith in God with all he met. Bob and Helen were married for 52 years before Helen preceded him in death in 2008. He is survived by 7 children, Cyrilee Billings and husband Tim of West Fork, AR; Allison Bateman and husband Ron of Silver City; Melanie Farley of San Lorenzo; Robert D. Farmer of Mimbres; Mari Farmer of Ventura, Calif.; Matthew Farmer of Silver City; Shawn Farmer of San Lorenzo; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. A Graveside Service will be celebrated on Monday, October 28 at 11am at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers will be Ty and Chance Carter, Bret Kasten, Harvey Bates, Bill Crossland and Dickie Thompson. Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels ~ 575-537-0777.
