Don Catanach, 60, of Las Cruces entered eternal life Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 at his home. He was born May 26, 1953 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Santa Fe, NM. "Donnie" grew up in Las Cruces after the family moved when he was 3 years old. He took up wrestling at Court Jr. High School and competed at the highest levels until his graduation from Las Cruces High School in 1971. In his life, Don had a very charitable nature. He enjoyed fishing and being in the outdoors and was the owner and operator of a successful tree trimming company in Las Cruces for a time and loved the challenges it presented. He is survived by his loving family, which includes his mother, Gail Catanach; his father, Paul Catanach and wife Pat; four brothers, Ellis, Kenneth, Russell and Curtis. Other survivors include a nephew, Christopher. He was preceded in death by his beloved nephew, Paul Catanach. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, Dec. 23, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the Basilica of San Albino, 2070 Calle de Santiago in Mesilla with his cousin, Rev. Richard Catanach officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in San Albino Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. "Donnie" will be remembered for his loving and charitable heart.
