Jerome Neil Deutschman, 92, passed away at La Posada - Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces, N.M., on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013. He was born to Paul and Hilda Deutschman in Buffalo, N.Y., on July 7, 1921. Mr. Deutschman attended Cornell University and then was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving his country honorably during World War II in the Pacific Theater and was stationed in Japan and the Philippines. He returned to Buffalo to finish his bachelor's degree at the University of Buffalo. He continued his education by attending graduate school at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning a master's degree in Engineering and completing all but his dissertation in his doctoral studies. Throughout his professional career, he worked as an engineer in Buffalo, and then at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Deutschman was a long-time member and former board member of Temple Beth El in Las Cruces. Mr. Deutschman's wife of 63 years, Marion, passed away in 2011. He is survived by his son, Richard Deutschman, and wife Francy; daughter Ellen Torres and husband, Alfred; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A Funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. today, Dec. 27, 2013, in Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road with Rabbi Lawrence Karol officiating. Concluding Service and Interment will follow in Masonic Cemetery, 760 S. Compress, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife. Military honors will be accorded by a New Mexico National Guard honor guard and the Marine Corps League – El Perro Diablo Detachment.
