Lyle Porter, 73, of Las Cruces, N.M., went to his heavenly home on March 23, 2014. Lyle is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jan Porter. Lyle and Jan met while working at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., and made California their home for many years. In 1988, they moved to Las Cruces, where they both worked at Johnson Space Center. Lyle loved to play golf and always joked that his handicaps were his arms and legs! He never met a stranger and always made people comfortable just being around him. Lyle had one stepdaughter, Teresia Balderaz of Coalinga, Calif. His stepdaughter Debbie San Pedro, also of California, preceded him in death. Lyle has five grandchildren: Joshua Obershaw, Tony Balderaz, Shannon Jewel and Tiger San Pedro, all of California, along with Daniel Balderaz of Tulsa, Okla., and one great-grandson, Dean Lawrence Jewel of California. Services are entrusted to La Paz-Grahams Funeral Home. Lyle was a man who made friends easily, with many friends coast to coast. He was loved for his hugs, and the light in eyes when he smiled. He will be missed by so many. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lyle may be made to Cancer Aid, Research and Education (CARE), 141 Roadrunner Road, Suite 226, Las Cruces, NM 88011. Services are entrusted to La Paz-Grahams Funeral Home.
