Anna Showalter Obituary

Anna E. Showalter MOHNTON Mrs. Anna E. (Kohl) Showalter, 79, died on Friday, October 11, 2013, at the Mifflin Center in Shillington. She was the wife of Eugene "Bill" W. Showalter, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage. Born in Cumru Twp., she was a daughter of the late William H., Sr. and Bertha M. (Ruffner) Kohl. Anna was a graduate of the former Mohnton High School, where she played basketball, field hockey, and volleyball. She was valedictorian of her 1952 class. She retired in April 1996 after 43 years of service at Equifax in West Reading. She was a member of Wyomissing United Church of Christ in Gouglersville, where she served as secretary of United Fellowship. She was the secretary of the Hill Toppers. Anna enjoyed being with her family, helping with Fellowship at the church, playing games and cards, especially at "card night" with the ladies. She liked going to the casino and trips to Potter County. She was always active. If anyone needed help she was always willing to lend a hand. She enjoyed gardening, canning, jarring, and pickling fresh vegetables. She loved her vacations to Penn State Bowl games, Australia, Hawaii, and to the Harry Potter World at Disney. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are children, Daryl W., husband of Lori A. Showalter of Bernville, and Craig E., husband of Janette H. Showalter of Myerstown. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Melissa, Adam, and Benjamin Showalter; and two sisters, Betty G. Bender of Alleghenyville and Shirley K. Boltz of Park Manor. She was predeceased by siblings, William H. Kohl, Jr., Milton D. Kohl, Vernon L. Kohl, Mildred M.K. Brendle, and Dorothy E. Hassler Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Thursday, October 17, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Wyomissing United Church of Christ, 2 Vermont Road, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, with the Rev. Selina Hamilton officiating. Interment will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Laureldale. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Giles & Yeckley Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc., 21 Chestnut St., Mohnton, and again on Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Wyomissing United Church of Christ, Two Vermont Road, Sinking Spring, PA 19608.
