Abner Church Sr.

Abner Church, Sr. FREDERICKSBURG Abner Church, Sr., 75, formerly of Jonestown, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2013, at Ephrata Community Hospital. Born in Scuddy, Ky., on April 19, 1938, he was the son of the late Newton and Amanda Cole Church. He had worked for Windsor Service in Cleona as a truck driver and was a member of the St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Hamlin. He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. English. He enjoyed camping, bluegrass, and especially spending time with his family. He is survived by his son, Abner Church, Jr. and his wife, Sue of Lebanon; daughters, Sherri L., wife of Larry Gerhart of Fredericksburg, Wanda J., wife of Brad Sebastian, Sr. of Jonestown, and Debra A., wife of Corey Hoffert of Lebanon; the mother of his children, Catherine E. Walmer Church of Fredericksburg; brothers, Bethel Church, Ewell Slaven, and Corbett Slaven, all of Kentucky; sisters, Hazel Macartney of Detroit, Mich., and Shirley Conley of Kentucky; his five grandchildren; and his five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's U.C.C. - Hamlin. No viewing, but a visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the start of the service.
