John P. Harnish

John P. Harnish MYERSTOWN John P. Harnish, 88, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at StoneRidge Towne Centre. He was the husband of Gail H. (Dietrich) Harnish, who died August 1, 2009. Born in Brownstown, on March 1, 1926, he was the son of the late Christian B. and Anna B. (Bair) Harnish. A member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Myerstown, he served on numerous committees for many years and sang in the choir over 60 years. He worked as a supervisor at GTE Telephone Co., Myerstown, for 37 years, retiring in 1984. He was an active firefighter for 58 years with the Keystone Fire Co., Myerstown, past EMT of Myerstown First Aid Unit, and member of Lebanon County Firefighters Assn. He enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, and traveling by train. In 1974, he received the Valor Award from the Lebanon County Firefighters Association. He also became Chief Engineer Emeritus on March 2, 1985. On June 16, 2001, he received the Distinguished Fire Service Award presented by the Lebanon County Firefighters Assn. He is survived by a sister, Crystabelle, widow of Robert Weidler of Lawn; a brother, James Harnish of Myerstown; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Gloria Rittle, Eleanor Kramer, Pollyanna Blankenbiller, Rosalie Harnish, and Verna Hufford. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at 11 a.m. from Friedens Lutheran Church, Myerstown. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment at Friedens Memorial Park, Myerstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Keystone Hook & Ladder Co. #1, 25 S. Railroad St., Myerstown, PA 17067; or Friedens Lutheran Church, 301 W. Washington Ave., Myerstown, PA 17067. Grose Funeral Home, Myerstown, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
