John W. Simmers LEBANON John W. "Jack" Simmers, 80, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, in the Lebanon Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the husband of Betty A. Bowman Simmers with whom he celebrated a 56th wedding anniversary in January. He was born in Lebanon on November 29, 1932, a son of the late Crawford and Mabel Simpson Simmers. He was a 1951 graduate of Lebanon High School and attended college in Chillicothe, MO. He was a retired welder having worked for Cleaver Brooks for over 30 years. Jack was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force having been stationed in Alaska and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. John's U.M. Church, Lebanon. Jack was a life member of the Neversink Fire Company where he served as president and chief for over 20 years. He was also a life member of the Lebanon County Fireman's Association where he served as president and he was a life member of the Lebanon County Fire Chief's Association. He was also a member of the Friendship Fire Company. He was a member of the C.B. Sportsman's Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Fredericksburg Legion. He loved gardening; working is his yard; and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife he is survived by children, Donna wife of David Brunson, Lebanon, Donald Simmers and wife Sue, Lebanon, John W. Simmers, Jr. and wife Karen, Lebanon, Barbara High, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Jane Shott, Marian Donnachie, Joan Miller, Betty Gates; also nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Pauline Speck, Thelma Bender, Elizabeth Embich, Helen Williamson; and brothers, Richard Simmers, William Simmers and Donald Simmers. Funeral services will be Monday at 12:30 p.m. in the Rohland Funeral Home, 508 Cumberland St., Lebanon, PA 17042. There will be a viewing on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 11:30 a.m. to the time of service in the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will be made in the National Cemetery at Ft. Indiantown Gap. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Jack's memory to the .
