Marion I. Miller

Marion I. Miller PALMYRA Marion I. Miller, 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at her residence. Born in Jonestown, on July 11, 1929, she was the daughter of the late N. Stanford and M. Irene Albert Miller. She attended Annville United Methodist Church. Marion was a 1951 graduate of Albright College. She received her elementary certification from Millersville State College, her master of education from Temple University, and then did graduate study at Pennsylvania State University. Marion was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, having served as the NU Chapter President and the state president from 1977-1979. She was a retired elementary principal from Annville Cleona School District. Marion was involved with numerous professional activities. Among them, she was the past president of Lebanon County Elementary School Principals, American Association of University Women, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR), and she was the past president of the Lebanon County Association of School Retirees. Marion was very involved throughout her community. She was past president of Annville United Methodist Women, and a member of the bell choir and church choir. She was the past president, recording secretary, and treasurer of the P.E.O, Palmyra Women's Club President from 2000-2002, Lebanon County Federation of Women's Clubs, Education co-chairman, Order of the Eastern Star, Order of the Amaranth, Lebanon County Historical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, Lebanon Valley College Auxiliary, and Friends of the Palmyra Library. Marion was the recipient of many honors and awards. She was listed in Outstanding Educators in America and Who's Who in American Education in 1988-1989. In 1987-1988 she was the first alternate for distinguished principal award. She was the recipient of the 1988 Distinguished Albright College Alumnus Award and in 1988 received the Alpha Alpha State, Delta Kappa Gamma achievement award. Her major interests included travel, reading, genealogy, golf, walking, and handicrafts, especially needlepoint, quilting, and quilling. Surviving are a brother, Richard S. Miller of Jonestown; a niece, Cynthia L. Miller of Palmyra; nephews, Brian R., husband of Kaye Miller of Lebanon, and Scott A., husband of Susan Miller of Annville; grand-nieces, Ashley Miller and Lauren Hallowell; and grand-nephews, Christopher Miller, Andrew Miller, and Evan Hallowell. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Annville United Methodist Church, 1 College Ave., Annville. Interment will be in Ono Cemetery, Ono. An Eastern Star service will be held at 8:45 a.m. There will be a visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
