Mark J. Hostetter

Mark J. Hostetter CORNWALL Mark J. Hostetter, a United Methodist clergyman, died on Tuesday morning, July 15, 2014, in the Health Center of Cornwall Manor, ten days short of his 100th birthday. He was the fourth son and fifth child in a family of eight born to the late Penrose S. and Katie (Light) Hostetter of Bellegrove, Lebanon County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Hartman Hostetter, and his second wife, Ruth Keene Hostetter. Mark is survived by a son, Sidney, and his wife Evelyn; a brother, Penrose, and his wife Carolyn; a stepgrandson, David; a step great-grandson, Hunter; and three goddaughters and their families. Rev. Hostetter, a graduate of Annville High School, Lebanon Valley College, United Theological Seminary and the Yale Divinity School, was later honored with a doctor of divinity degree by his alma mater, Lebanon Valley College. He served as pastor in a number of churches including the United Methodist churches in Annville and Elizabethtown. He was appointed to superintend the Lancaster District of E. PA Conference from 1969 to 1975. He retired in 1979 but served in part-time appointments in Lebanon County and on the staff of Cornwall Manor. He was also a trustee of Lebanon Valley College and of United Theological Seminary. He recently finished a book, Meeting God: My Religious Formation from a Psychological Point of View. Mark enjoyed reading, especially theology and history, teaching his church school class, family gatherings and conversation with any who were willing to be engaged by his sharp mind, excellent memory, and spiritual depth. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Annville United Methodist Church, 1 College Avenue, Annville. Interment will be in North Bellegrove Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, 618 E. Main St., Annville and also from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
