Verda E. Layser

Verda E. Layser PALMYRA Verda E. Layser, 82, died on Sunday, March 16, 2014. She was born on Sunday, September 20, 1931, to the late Elmer Gibbel and Verda Gibbel nee Eckert in Lebanon. She graduated from Fredericksburg High School. Verda was a member of Lebanon Church of the Brethren where she served on Christian Education, Womens Fellowship, Deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir and quilter. She retired from the greeting card industry, having worked as supervisor, buyer, and manager for various companies. Surviving are sons, Joseph, spouse of Marjorie Layser, Newport News, Va., Andrew Layser, Downingtown; David, spouse of Cynthia Layser, Lebanon, Frederick Layser, San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Candace, spouse of Richard Woods, Basking Ridge, N.J.; grandchildren James Layser, Anthony Layser, Michelle Layser, Robert Layser, Adrienne Gettle, Derek Layser, Stephanie Layser, Desiree Lambert, Jordan Woods, Megan Woods, Devin Layser; great-grandchildren, Jack Cortez, Alexander Layser, Madelyn Layser, Caden Gettle; sisters, Naomi Bucher, Vera Gross and Faye Atkins. She was preceded in death by husband, Joseph W. Layser; son, William Ira Layser; brother, Ira William Gibbel; sister, Minerva Lentz. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Lebanon Church of the Brethren, 400 Locust St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Meyer Cemetery, Lebanon, following the service.
