Mrs. Fisher was born in Newark, N.J. to Julius and Mary (Heilbronn) Steigmann on October 10, 1910. In 1931, she was married to Alvin E. Fisher, also of Newark, who predeceased her in 1960. Fisher of Bloomington, IN; Peggy J. Fisher, companion of Gary Uhl, of Rochester Hills, MI; and Robin H. Cisne, wife of John of Ithaca, NY. A beloved daughter, Dr. Linda A. Fisher of Fairfax, VA, died in 2006. A devoted mother to her children, Bert (Bertha) worked tirelessly at home and in various occupations to provide for their needs and support their educational endeavors: secretary, real estate, home health care. She was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Westfield, and continued in its fellowship after moving to Lebanon in 1986 to take up residence with daughter, Jean. In Lebanon, she was active in the senior citizen's center, and made her home in her South Lebanon Township neighborhood a welcoming place to young and old alike. Bert (Bertha) leaves a sister, Helen Kennedy (Mrs. Walter) of Kendall Park, NJ. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Charles Steigmann, Marie Zellers (Mrs. William), Margaret Kunzman (Mrs. John), Anna Nuzzi (Mrs. James), and William Steigmann. Besides her children named above, Bert leaves six grandchildren: Beth Fisher of Charlotte, NC, Amy (Mrs. Cortez) Standard of Tampa, FL, Eric Fisher (wife Mary Beth) of Scotch Plains, NJ; Joel Cisne, Nathaniel Cisne, and Martin Cisne of Ithaca, NY; and seven great-grandchildren: MaryRosa, Grace, and Wick Hatch of Charlotte, NC, Hayleigh and Logan Standard of Tampa, FL, and, Robert and Claire Fisher of Scotch Plains, NJ. Also remaining are numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Westfield, NJ, on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 2 p.m. with interment at the convenience of the family in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 229 Cowperthwaite Place, Westfield, NJ 07090, would be appreciated.
