James J. Arnold, Jr. LEBANON James J. Arnold, Jr., passed away on October 21, 2009, at the Hershey Medical Center. He was the son of Doris J. Underkoffler of Lebanon and the late James J. Arnold. Arnold, who attended St. Mary's grade school, Lebanon Catholic High School and the University of Pittsburgh, started his career in the Baltimore, Md. area, in the managerial program of Holiday Inns in 1967. He spent over 10 years managing Holiday Inns not only in the Baltimore area, but also in New Haven, Conn., and running a training program in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. After leaving Holiday Inns, Arnold bought his own club in the downtown Baltimore area, for which he is remembered for his ongoing fund raising in the early AIDS research program at the Johns Hopkins Medical Center and local Baltimore educational programs. He is also remembered for his annual involvement in the Marine Corps "Toys for Tots" program, where over the years, thousands of new toys were brought into his club for distribution to underprivileged children. After 25 years, Arnold moved back to Lebanon County and resided in Mt. Gretna for 20 years before moving into the city of Lebanon. Arnold was a member of the American Catholic Church and also an associate brother of the Mercy of God religious community and devoted his ministry to the terminally ill. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Theta Chi Fraternity. Surviving in addition to his mother, is a brother, Dr. Gregory Arnold and wife , Beth; a sister, Dr. Eileen Arnold and companion, Ellen Lynn; four nieces; a great nephew; and a great niece. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. from the Kreamer Funeral Home & Crematory, 618 E. Main St., Annville. Inurnment will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lebanon.
