Merle C. Harding PALMYRA Merle C. Harding, 95, formerly of Pen Argyl, passed away, Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, Palmyra. He was the husband of Clara Mae (Duncan) Harding. They celebrated 66 years of marriage on March 30, 2013. Born in Pen Argyl, October 1, 1917, he was the son of the late Russell A. and Hester (Rowland) Harding. Merle was employed as a carpenter for R.J. Stiles Lumber Company for 33 years, retiring in 1980. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Pen Argyl, where he sang in the choir, attended Sunday School, and served on the building committee. In addition to his wife, Clara Mae, he is survived by a daughter, Sara A. Fetrow of Palmyra; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Witmer and her husband, Michael, and John Fetrow; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Alyssa Witmer; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roland Harding. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 404 E. Mountain Ave., Pen Argyl. There will be a viewing from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Pen Argyl.
