Mildred R. Wilhelm UPPER TULPEHOCKEN TWP Mildred R. (nee Stertzel-Kirn) Wilhelm, 97, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014, at her residence, just three days before her 98th birthday. Her husband, Stanley K. Wilhelm died January 18, 2004. Born in Robesonia on March 5, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Milton M. and Minnie R. (Bright) Stertzel, and adopted daughter of the late William R. and Susan E. Kirn. She was a 1933 graduate of Reading High School. She assisted her late husband for 40 years in farming their "Century" Farm. She was a member of St. John's Host Church, where she sang in the Choir about 25 years, was in the Bell Choir, led the Junior Choir a few years, and taught Sunday School at Zion's U.C.C. in Strausstown before rejoining Host Church. She was a member of the Shartlesville Grange #1512, where she served as Lecturer and various other offices; a member of the Strausstown Women's Club for 45 years; served as pianist, song Leader, sang, and played for "The Heartwarmers" in Bernville for 9 years. She also was a member of the 50+ Club in Bethel where she led a Chorus and she organized "The Silver Liners". She is survived by two daughters, Gloria A. wife of Merril S. Kauffman, Strausstown, and Barbara S. wife of Stanley M. Stoudt, Myerstown; a son, Philip J. Wilhelm husband of Carol A. (Kline) Wilhelm, Strausstown; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by a great-grandson, a brother, and two sisters. Services will be held Saturday, March 8 at 11 a.m. in St. John's Host Church, 36 Host Church Road, Bernville, PA 19506, with the Rev. Larry Longenecker officiating. Interment at Host Church Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Saturday 10 to 11 a.m. at St. John's Host Church. Lamm & Witman Funeral Home, Inc., Wernersville, is handling arrangements.
