Joseph R. Ponessa PALMYRA Joseph Ralph Ponessa, 87, passed away with family by his side on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at Lebanon Valley Home in Annville. He was born Sunday, February 7, 1926, in Lebanon to the late Constantino and Maria (Chiarelli) Ponessa. He is survived by his loving wife, Georgette Frances (May) Ponessa. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Joseph retired from Bethlehem Steel and Palmyra Area Schools maintenance department. He was a faithful member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, a member of the Rexmont Fire Company, and a former member of Cornwall Hunting and Fishing Club. Most importantly, he was a loving husband and father. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, JoAnn R. Ponessa. He is predeceased by three brothers, Frank, Constantino, Jr., and William Ponessa; and three sisters, Sarah Leibig, Angeline Ponessa, and Mary Coleman. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, February 10 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 245 W. Pine St., Palmyra. PA 17078, with Father James F. Podlesny as celebrant. Family and friends are invited for viewing on Sunday, February 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra , PA 17078, and on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.
