Frank R. Kirchner MYERSTOWN Frank R. Kirchner, 87, died Thursday, February 6, 2014 at his residence. He was the husband of Loretta R. (Troy) Kirchner, who died January 23, 2011. Born in Lebanon on April 7, 1926, he was the son of the late Frank and Teresa (Reiter) Kirchner. A 1943 graduate of Lebanon High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served during World War II, celebrating his 18th birthday by flying his first combat bombing mission over Europe. After the war, he earned a B.S. in business and economics at Lebanon Valley College in 1950. He was employed as the general manager at the Warren Shirt Co., Lebanon, for 25 years until retiring in 1984. A member of Mary Gate of Heaven Catholic Church, he was a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus, Lebanon, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Myerstown, the Myerstown VFW, Richland Legion and enjoyed gardening, golfing and traveling. He also served on the ELCO School Board for 16 years and was instrumental in the beginning of the ELCO Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program. Due to his work and support, ELCO was able to have the first EMT class taught as a regular high school course in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and one of the first nation widebecoming a guide for other schools throughout the country that wanted to implement a similar program. Mr. Kirchner is survived by daughters, Loretta Gutshall, Barbara, wife of Rick Seifert, of Myerstown; sons, Frank E. Kirchner, of Manheim, David Kirchner, of Myerstown; eight grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Frank C. Kirchner in 1990. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 14, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Mary Gate of Heaven Catholic Church, Myerstown, preceded by a viewing at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Lebanon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mary Gate of Heaven Catholic Church, 188 W. McKinley Ave., Myerstown, PA 17067.
