Russell Neiswender HERSHEY Russell L. Neiswender, 90, passed away on February 8, 2014, in Frey Village, Middletown He was born August 28, 1923, in Tremont, son of the late John and Ruth (Eltringham) Neiswender. Russell was a graduate of East Stroudsburg University and the University of Pennsylvania School of Physical Therapy. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran with service in the European and Pacific Theaters and received the Meritorious Service Award in Germany. He had been a physical therapist at the former Crippled Childrens Hospital in Elizabethtown and the former Hershey Hospital. In 1973, he started the first physical therapy service at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon. He later retired from the hospital as Administrative Director of Rehabilitation Services. He was a member of the Derry Presbyterian Church in Hershey, the American and Pennsylvania Physical Therapist Association, the Hershey Country Club, Prince Edwin-Spring Creek Lodge #486 F&AM, Harrisburg Consistory and Zembo Shrine. He was the widower of Betty L. (Kennedy) Neiswender and is survived by his son, Mark R. Neiswender of Hershey; granddaughters, Nikita M. Neiswender of Middletown and Cierra C. Robbins of New Jersey. Private funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., Hershey. Interment with honors was in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Derry Presbyterian Church, 248 E. Derry Road, Hershey, PA 17033.
