Irvin E. Benfer MYERSTOWN Irvin E. Benfer, 84, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at his residence. He was the husband of Reta M. (Weidman) Benfer, to whom he was married 59 years on February 12, 2014. Born in Bethel, on December 14, 1929, he was the son of the late Elmer and Elsie (Davis) Benfer. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was employed as a crane operator at Quaker Alloy, Myerstown, from 1961 to 1994. He also worked part time at Heydt's Service Station, Myerstown, and later as a cleaner at Boscov's, Lebanon. He enjoyed hunting, crossword and Sudoku puzzles, and was a Philadelphia Phillies fan. In addition to his wife, Mr. Benfer is survived by sons, Jeffrey Benfer of Lebanon, and Craig, husband of Tina Benfer of Lebanon; grandchildren, Eric Benfer, David Troain, Laurin Troain, and Mark Benfer; a great-granddaughter, Maniyah Charles; sisters, Arlene Meily of Lancaster andVerna Mentzer of Lancaster; a brother, Harold Benfer of Bethel; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Benfer, and a sister, Eleanor Zserai. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 31, 2014, at 12:30 p.m. from Grose Funeral Home, 358 W. Washington Ave., Myerstown, preceded by a visitation beginning at 11:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elco Bible Church, P.O. Box 201, Myerstown, PA 17067.
