Charles W. Sando LEBANON Charles W. Sando, 91, a lifelong resident of Lebanon, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at the VA Medical Center, Lebanon. He was the husband of Hilda Sara (VanWinkle) Sando, who died October 18, 1983. Born in Lebanon, on December 20, 1922, he was the son of the late Charles Frank and Sarah (Albright) Sando. A 1940 graduate of Lebanon High School, he served in the U.S. Marines during WWII. He was employed as a steel worker at Bethlehem Steel, Lebanon, for nearly 40 years, retiring in 1983. A member of the Annville American Legion Post 559 for over 70 years, he enjoyed bowling at the Goodwill Fire Co., Myerstown, and with the Silver Haired Daddies League at Cedar Lanes, Lebanon. He is survived by daughters, Shirley J., wife of Frederick Folmer of Bethel, and Diane L., wife of Michael Vanacore of Madison, Conn.; sons, Charles W., Jr., husband of Elsabeth Sando of Annville, and David M. Sando, companion of April Scharer of Forty Fort; grandchildren, Frederick M. Folmer, Andrew R. Folmer, Laura A. Eckert, Steven C. Sando, Rebecca D. O'Connell, and Andrea M. Neubauer; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 7, 2014, at 1 p.m. from Grose Funeral Home, 358 W. Washington Ave., Myerstown, preceded by a viewing beginning at 12 p.m. Interment at Grand View Memorial Park, Annville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VA Medical Center, 1700 S. Lincoln Ave., Lebanon, PA 17042.
