Earl E. Bell HARRISBURG Earl Eugene Bell, 88, died Thursday July 10, 2014, in Harrisburg Hospital. Born August 16, 1925, he was the son of the late Samuel Jay Bell and Henrietta Jane (Cassel) Bell. He was married for over 48 years to Barbara Ann (Longenecker) Bell, who died in 1996. Earl was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving stateside during World War II. Following his military service he worked as a carpenter and plasterer then for 29 years for the Hershey Foods Corporation, most of the time in the shipping department. He loved to hunt and fish in his younger days; when he got older he enjoyed eating out and socializing with his friends, former co-workers, and his family. Earl was a member of Tree of Life Lutheran Church, Harrisburg. Before that he belonged to Palmyra Church of the Brethren, Palmyra; and St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Harrisburg. Christian values were very important to him and he was a faithful attendee at Saturday evening services at Tree of Life. While a member at St Mark's he volunteered many years for the Neighborhood Center in Harrisburg. Earl is survived by a son, Linn Eugene Bell, husband of Diane Louise (Brossman) Bell of Harrisburg, and two grandchildren, Rachel Emmaline Bell and Adam Nathaniel Bell both of Harrisburg. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Jane (Bell) Ament of Mt Joy, wife of the late Paul M. Ament; and a brother, M. John Bell of Harrisburg, husband of Josephine E. (Longenecker) Bell, and by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by seven sisters: Mildred E. Eshenour, Orpha A. Knapp, Ruth E. Good, Eva M. Etter, Mary H. Kaylor, Verna C. Roush, and Ethel R. Cline; and by two brothers: Jay S. Bell and Ray R. Bell. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday July 15 at Tree of Life Lutheran Church, 1492 Linglestown Rd, Harrisburg. Pastors Richard and Catharine Geib will officiate. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will take place after the service in the Hanoverdale Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Hanoverdale.
