LEBANON George G. Gass, 85, died Friday, January 11, 2013, at the VA Medical Center, Lebanon. He was the husband of Pauline "Polly" R. (Strawbridge) Gass, to whom he was married 64 years on December 24, 2012. Born in Myerstown, on November 23, 1927, he was the son of the late Isaac and Ethel (Schaeffer) Gass. A 1945 graduate of Myerstown High School, he served with the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II. He owned and operated Gass Plumbing and Heating in Myerstown, selling the business in 1983. He also worked as the Assistant Superintendent of Maintenance for the Lebanon County Housing Authority for eight years and as the resident manager at Poplar Terrace, Lebanon. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Myerstown. He was also a lifetime member of Richland American Legion Post 880, Lebanon VFW Post 23, and the Goodwill and Mt. Aetna Fire Companies. He was past president of the Lincoln Republican Club and was an avid bowler at the Orioles, nest #147, Lebanon. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Frank, husband of Trudy Gass of Richland, and Michael Gass of Coal Twp.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Jane Wentling of Myerstown and Helen Lutz of Palmyra; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, from Grose Funeral Home, 358 W. Washington Ave., Myerstown, with a viewing from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Zion United Methodist Cemetery, Myerstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the "Improvement Fund" of Zion United Methodist Church, 22 E.
