William Cagnoli HERSHEY William Cagnoli, 84, passed away on February 26, 2013, at Harrisburg Hospital after a long illness. He was born August 14, 1928, in Philadelphia, to Plenio Cagnoli and Ida (Vetrulli) Cagnoli. He graduated from Hershey High in 1946 and Lebanon Valley College in 1952 and attended the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Technical Sgt in the Army Ground Forces Band; discharged 1948; and then with the U.S. / PA Air National Guard; 553rd Air Force Band; Master Sgt; discharged 1952. Bill founded Cagnoli Music Company in 1960, where he sold, repaired and offered music lessons for nearly every instrument. In 1970 he purchased Marty's Music Store, in Lebanon. Both were later sold. Mr. Cagnoli volunteered for nearly 20 years at the Lebanon Veterans Hospital as a Registered Musical Therapist, helping patients with mental illness problems use music to have a better life. He played with the Harrisburg Symphony and many local bands, as well as visiting musicals, the Ice Capades, Ice Follies, and others. He was a president, conductor and cofounder of the Hershey Symphony. He was a lifetime member of the Hershey Italian Lodge and in 1966 was a founding member and corresponding secretary of the Derry Township Better Government League. Bill was an avid cook, gardener, tennis player and and supporter of all things Italian. Bill is survived by wife of over 60 years Ruth (Heisey), son, W. Allan Cagnoli and his wife Marilyn of Alexandria, Va.; granddaughters, Alicia and Marisa Cagnoli, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends and all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Cagnoli. He was also a member of Brownstone Lodge #666 F&AM, Hershey, the Harrisburg Consistory, and the Zembo Temple Shrine. A visitation will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013, 10 to 11 a.m., in the Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., Route 422 & Lucy Ave., Hershey, followed by a Time of Remembrance beginning at 11 a.m. Private interment will be in the Hershey Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
