George E. Steckbeck LEBANON George E. Steckbeck, 91, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the husband of the late Gloria F. Steckbeck and father of the late Janet B. Cunningham. Born in Lebanon, on January 8, 1922, he was the son of the late Millard and Mary Elizabeth Steckbeck. George was a WWII veteran, surviving the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, fighting in the Guadalcanal Campaign, and volunteering to fight in the Battle of Midway, among his many accomplishments. He fought with the Army Air Corps until it became the Air Force. He spent 12 years in the military in all, earning a Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Defense Service, and Asiatic Pacific Air Medal in the process. George later had a job at Sower's Printing in Lebanon, from where he retired after 23 years. He lived a long life filled with interesting places, lifelong friends, and an unending list of memories. His kindness, courage, compassion, and humbleness will be remembered always. He is survived by his four grandchildren, Keri, wife of Roberto Rodriguez of Jonestown, Glorilyn, wife of Scott Rowe of Harrisburg, Bob Cunningham of Fredericksburg, and Brett Cunningham and wife, Mashana of Fredericksburg; great-grandchildren, Brittany Rodriguez, Bob, Derek, Tyler, and Taylor Cunningham, Amber, wife of Mark K. Spengler of Hummelstown, and Eric Filler, Jr. and wife, Sonia of Grantville; great-great-grandchildren, Reagan Spengler and Jaxon Filler; and a sister, Annabel Karnes, of Lebanon. They will always regard him as their Hero. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Funeral procession will form at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 Camp Meeting Road, Jonestown, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. www.kreamerlumfh.com
