Martin Shuey Obituary

Martin N. Shuey ANNVILLE Martin N. "Marty" Shuey, 92, died on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at VA Medical Center. He was born on Wednesday, December 7, 1921, to the late Clayton Holmes Shuey and Anna Shuey nee Nye in Lebanon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1940 and was self-employed from 1948-1984 in the coal, fuel oil and paving and excavating business. Martin enjoyed collecting antiques and was a proud historian of Lebanon, where he documented many historical facts in printed booklets. He was a member of North Lebanon Lions Club, Industrial Management, Cornwall Lebanon Advisory Board, North Lebanon School Board, Quentin Riding Club, Valley Beach Club, Lebanon County Preservation Trust, life member of Lebanon County Historic Society, life member of Historic Schaefferstown, Bethlehem Steel Union (CIO), Democratic Club, Republican Club, Tall Cedars, 32nd Degree Mason, Zembo Shrine, PTA of Ebenezer, TPA, life member of AAAC of Hershey and National and a judge of National, PA Dutch Auto Club, Lights Fort Preservation, Northside Civic League, Eagles Club and Elks Club. Surviving are daughters, Kathy spouse of Dennis Gerlach, Karen spouse of Dean Bicksler, Kay Shuey; son, Randy spouse of Gail Shuey; grandchildren, Michael Bicksler, Brian Bicksler, Kerry Bicksler, Christopher Gerlach, Jonathan Gerlach; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Gerlach, Kateri Bicksler. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Marian Shuey nee Gipe (2003); brothers, Raymond, John, William, Roy, Clayton; sisters, Rebecca, Susan. Viewing will be on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Christman's Funeral Home, Inc., 226 Cumberland St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with viewing starting at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, with full military honors, following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Lebanon County Historical Society, 924 Cumberland St., Lebanon, PA 17042; or Historic Preservation Trust, PO Box 286, Lebanon PA 17042; or VA Medical Center-Hospice, 1700 S. kathy, kay, and family,
i am so thankful i was able to care for your dad at the va a few years ago. a man i knew of through family, but did not know. we talked for long periods of time and i really enjoyed getting to know him. at one point, he told me how much he missed his wife. now they are together again! my thoughts and prayers to you and your family. with sympathy, susie levack (morris)
